How I price a job

No price list here. Every house is different, so the price comes in writing, after I have seen the work.

  • What decides the price

Most of the price is in the walls, not the fixtures. These are the things that move it.

    • Whether the wall or attic is open or finished

    • How far the new run is from the panel

    • The age and condition of the wiring I find

    • What the panel can carry

    • Permit and inspection fees

    • The grade of materials

  • What the estimate includes, and what it doesn't

Written, in plain lines, with the permit and the inspection on their own.

    • Labor and materials, line by line

    • The permit and the inspection

    • Not included: drywall repair and paint

    • Not included: the power company's own fees

  • What happens at the visit

I come to the house, look at the work and the panel, and measure. I don't quote a number on the spot. The visit has a set fee, written on the estimate and credited to the job if you hire me.

  • After hours

There is no after-hours rate, because there is no after-hours work. I don't take evening, weekend or holiday jobs. For an emergency, call 911 or an emergency electrician.

  • When you get the number

The estimate arrives in writing after the visit, as one price for the job as written. If I open a wall and find something else, I stop and we talk before the price changes.

  • How and when you pay

The terms are on the estimate: what is due before materials are ordered and what is due once the work passes inspection. I take checks and cards.

The visit

What I look at, and what I don't price

At the visit I look at the work, the panel and the meter, and measure. I write it all down and leave. The number comes in writing, not at the door.

  • The panel door, its labels and the meter

  • The wall, attic or basement the cable will run through

  • What you want in each room

Questions about the estimate

What does the visit cost?

The visit has a set fee, written on the estimate and credited to the job if you hire me. Ask what it is when you book.

Do you charge for evenings or weekends?

I don't work them, so there is no rate.

Can I send photos?

Yes. Text a photo of the panel door, its labels and your meter. It helps me plan the visit. I read texts in working hours.

How do I book?

Pick the season you want on the contact form, or call in working hours. I will offer dates inside that season and put them in writing with the estimate.

Ready for an estimate?

Tell me the job and the season you want. I will offer dates and write the estimate after the visit.
