The job

Light where you will use it

New fixtures, dimmers, switches and outdoor lights, placed with you standing in the room. I group the small jobs, so a porch light, a dead outlet and three switches go on one day.

Outdoor work waits for the summer season, when the ground is dry and the days are long.

  • Fixtures, dimmers and switches

  • Outdoor lights and outlets in the summer season

  • Small jobs grouped into one visit

When to book it

When to book it

  • A room that is dark in the afternoon

Winter in Maine means lights on by four. A second fixture and a dimmer change a room.

  • Switches in the wrong place

I stand in the room with you and mark where your hand goes.

  • A porch or a path with no light

Outdoor circuits are scheduled for summer.

  • A fixture you bought and haven't hung

Bring the box. I check the box and the ceiling before I start.

How pricing works for this job

No price here, because the walls decide it. These are the things that move it.

  • What decides the price

A fixture on an existing box is quick; a new box in a finished ceiling is not.

    • Existing or new boxes

    • Finished or open ceilings

    • Fixture weight and type

    • Outdoor or indoor

  • What the estimate includes, and what it doesn't

Line by line, one line for each fixture, switch or outlet.

    • Labor and materials by line

    • Not included: fixtures you supply

    • Not included: patching and paint

  • What happens at the visit

I look at the rooms and measure. The visit fee is on the estimate and credited to the job if you hire me.

  • When you get the number

In writing, after the visit, as one price for the list as written.

Questions about this job

Can you hang a fixture I bought?

Yes. I check the box and the ceiling can carry it, and tell you before I start if they can't.

Do you take small jobs?

Yes, if they can wait for a planned day. I group them: a dead outlet, three switches and a fixture can go on one visit. I don't make a trip for one outlet.

When can outdoor lights go in?

In the summer season, when the ground is dry and I can trench if the work calls for it.

Pick a season for it

Tell me the job and the season you want, and I will offer dates inside it.
